A masterful job of describing arabesque in such a way that both a dancer and a non-dancer will gain an appreciation of how it’s done as well as its effect upon the dancer. The little vignette about “sneaking” an arabesque while out for a walk speaks to the soul of a dancer.
Thank you, Geoff. I'm always trying to express what the world looks like through the dancer's eyes and how it feels to move through life in their body. So glad this resonated with you!
You were a beautiful dancer. Those arabesques, each a little different. I never danced at the level you did, but I'm writing a novel about ballet. This from a deleted section: Gemma stepped into an arabesque, a ballet dancer’s signature move. An automatic arrow of strength shot through her body and she dropped deep inside, assessing. Pulled down the edge of her shoulder blades which lifted her chest. Relaxed her hand, her neck, building an external elegance.
Thank you, Terri. Your description of Gemma's sensation in her arabesque is vivid! That's wonderful that you are writing a novel about the ballet world. Please keep me posted!
“Arabesque is always on the move, outside of time, seeking that which is hidden, and as silent as the Sphinx.” Love this 💕
Isn't that a great line? Laura Jacobs' book Celestial Bodies is very well worth reading.
Brilliant and beautiful! I love seeing ballet through your eyes!
Thank you, Curt! 😊

Beautifully written, dear Gavin—and utterly profound. And those photographs! What a legacy!
Thank you, Barbara! 💕
